Good news, penniless folk fans: badass Boston folk musician Mieka Pauley kicks off a national tour this week with three shows in Boston, and two of them are free. If you're not already down with Pauley, whose throaty, tough, stripped-down songs form the perfect counterpoint to the overproduced, overwrought studio stuff that passes for "folk" these days, this is your chance to check her out alongside some other talented acts.

Here's the schedule:
Aug 21 @ City Hall Plaza, 5pm, with The English Beat (free)
Aug 27 @ Church, 69 Kilmarnock St, 11pm, with the The Motion Sick (free)
Aug 28 @ Club Passim's Campfire Fest and 10th Anniversary Party, 47 Palmer St, with Ryan Montbleau, Amber Rubarth and Jesse Dee ($10)
We're not sure if her sometimes muted delivery and subtle lyrics will get their due at her City Hall appearance, but the Church gig should be intimate and pleasant (doubly so if you order the cheddar cheese grits next door beforehand) and the Passim show should be a party, if you're lucky enough to get tickets before they're sold out.
