Jackson Square Ice Rink One Bond Bill Away

Jamaica Plain's Kelly Ice Rink is slated to get $5.69 million for renovations if the state bond bill passes, according to the Jamaica Plain Gazette. The funds will be used to begin construction on a new, indoor rink to be built near the Jackson Square T station, on the border of JP and Roxbury. (The existing rink is a smallish, outdoor affair near the Stony Brook station.) Kelly Rink advocates had been vying with supporters of Roxbury's Cass Rink for funding, but state senator Dianne Wilkerson came up with a compromise funding solution that will benefit both communities, as Third Decade explains.
