The Red Sox got some revenge on the Toronto Blue Jays and Paul Byrd got his first win in a Red Sox uniform last night, when they beat the Jays 8-4. Paul Byrd pitched for six innings, got tagged for 4 runs and struck out 4. Alex Rios and Lyle Overbay both got homeruns off of Byrd in the first and fourth innings.
Dustin Pedroia started off the night with a homerun and the Red Sox bats came alive after that. The former slumping team captain, Jason Varitek, hit another home run last night in the sixth and went 2 for 3 last night. Kevin Youkilis, who’s been campaigning for AL MVP, hit his 34th double of the season. And no surprise to anyone, J.D. Drew didn’t play again.
The Pats lost during pre-season football again, this time to the Eagles, 27-17. Matt Cassell threw for 60 yards and completed 8 out 14 passes. Matt Gutierrez completed 14 passes out of the 20 he made and threw 2 touchdowns, one to C.J. Jones and the other to Chad Jackson. Randy Moss ran for a whopping 6 yards last night. He is a machine.
The Celtics signed 6’9 and 235 lbs power forward, Darius Miles yesterday. He last played for the Portland Trailblazers and missed the last two seasons recovering from microfacture surgery on his right knee. And for those of you who are looking for something to watch tonight, the Yankees are sending Carl Pavano to the hill. The 40 million-dollar pitcher has pitched a whopping 19 games for the three years he’s been in pinstripes. Money well spent. Aren’t you glad that pow wow with Schilling didn’t work in the Sox favor?
