Sports Redux: BoSox, Bobbleheads and Bad Parents

redsoxlogo.JPGIt’s the last Red Sox/Yankees series to be played at Yankee Stadium. Honestly, this act is getting as tired as it did when we were getting close to the millennium. But we understand why, there have been a few historic moments between the two teams there and when you’re five games out of the Wild Card spot, you need something to hold on to. After a nail bitter in Toronto, the Red Sox had yesterday off to recover and get ready for their series in the Bronx. Sox also recalled David Pauley from Pawtucket to work out of the bullpen, in case Tim Wakefield has a rough outing tonight.

For those of you who didn’t make it to Portland last night for Clay Buchholz Bobble Head Night, you missed Buchholz pitching for seven innings. He struck out eight, gave up four runs and didn’t walk anyone. But that wasn’t enough to get the Seadogs a win, they lost 6-5. If anyone doesn't want their bobble, feel free to send it to the author c/o Bostonist.com.

In Connecticut, a 9 year old boy is being kept from playing baseball. Why you ask? Because the kid throws some heat. Jericho Scott, a nine year old from New Haven, has a fast ball that’s clocked at 40 mph and because of this, parents of children in the league he plays in, want him either banned, playing another position or moved to another division.

From the time when we’re little, we’re always told to do our best and you’ll get rewarded in the end. Guess that was a load of BS. This Bostonist really questions the reasoning of the parents who are complaining and wonder if they’re more upset about Billy or Susie getting shown up on the field. In the game of life, there’s going to be winners and losers. There are tons of activities we’re not good at. It was depressing when we figured out we’d never make it in gymnastics because we were too tall and looked bloody awful in spandex. But we sucked up and found basketball. It’s all about finding what you’re good at and Jericho Scott is good at pitching. So give the kid a break and let him play.

I agree. Let the kid play. Heck, if Wakefield and Pauley have bad innings in NY, I'd bring this kid in before I'd bring in Manny Delcarmen.
