Bostonist Back to School Guide: Cheap Eats
Well, now you know how to get around and where to drink. How about where to get some cheap grub? There's lots of great food in this city, it just takes some exploring to find it.
Want some pizza? Try Pizzeria Regina, one of the cornerstones of the North End since 1926. Order a Formaggio Bianco pizza and ask the waitress for some extra garlic olive oil. For Sicilian-style slices, visit Pinocchio's Pizza in Harvard Square or Bostone Pizza on Newbury Street. The great thing about Sicilian-style is that, with a thicker crust, your cheap meal will really fill you up.
And who doesn't like a good sandwich? For one of the cheapest meals around, search out a Vietnamese bahn mi, available from various places around Chinatown or from Pho Viet at the Allston Super 88. These sandwiches usually won't run you more than $4, and they're filled with a variety of meats and veggies. Also try a Chacarero sandwich, topped with muenster cheese, avocado, and green beans, in Downtown Crossing - sounds weird, but it couldn't taste better. Dave's Fresh Pasta in Davis Square is another great sandwich shop, where you can get a huge variety of sandwiches made with the freshest ingredients.
Thick cheap eats is only for take-out? For a cheap and delicious sit-down meal, make sure to check out Silvertone Bar & Grill in Downtown Crossing. They have killer mac & cheese and steak tips that won't set you back much more than $10. Or try the Publick House in Brookline, for more killer mac & cheese and one of the best veggie burgers around.
