Friday Happenings

sosolimited.jpgBeer

-- If Bostonist had an office, its floor would be littered with empty and moldering 750ml bottles of Belgian beer. Conjure this in your mind as you visit The Return of the Belgian Beer Fest, a celebration of the brewing tradition. Tonight is the Night of the Funk, presented by Cambridge Brewing Company's head brewer Will Myers, whom we had the pleasure of interviewing. The Cyclorama, Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont St., South End, 6 p.m. Sold Out.

Possible Debates

-- A couple of U.S. Senators may or may not have a televised debate tonight, depending on the psychotic whims of the one from Arizona. Sosolimited is not so equivocal. The performance art group will conduct a live remixing of the presidential debates, if they happen, or of the Republican and Democratic nominating conventions if they do not. If the debates (or conventions) get you down, Soul Clap, Baltimoroder, Ptvn, and Etan will be spinning a dance party in the lobby. Institute of Contemporary Art, South Boston, 8:00 p.m. $20/$25.

Weird Sounds

-- The disturbing noise that you hear tonight coming from the Green Street Station won't be the MBTA's fault this time. Axiom Gallery and Non-Event present an evening of sound art and improvised drone music, featuring Zürich's Jason Kahn in a duo with local Asher Thal-Nir and the Brendan Murray/Howard Stelzer duo. Axiom Gallery, 141 Green St., Jamaica Plain, 8 p.m. $7 donation.

Keyboarding

-- The Boston Typewriter Orchestra makes entrancing, rhythmic music using a variety of vintage typewriters and their own twisted voices. The result is a sound that's part marching band, part elaborate joke, all awesome. 80 Border Street Cultural Exchange, Atlantic Works Building, 80 Border St., East Boston, 8 p.m.
