The Fluff Will Go On

fluff-pugs.jpgThe 3rd Annual What the Fluff? Festival was delayed until Sunday, but will go on tomorrow, rain or shine, from 4pm-7pm. Inspired by state legislature that proposed to ban Fluffernutters from school lunches in 2006, the Fluff festival began as a call to arms for personal freedom and choice of lunch sandwich. The fluffed up bill did not pass, and Somerville, home to the invention of Fluff, continues to rejoice. The question remains, will former state senator Jarrett Barrios show, or will he remain a fluffer-notter?

The main event is the cooking contest, and they've even snagged Robin Young from WBUR as a judge. The party continues with two music stages, featuring The Flufferettes (erstwhile burlesque troup Thru The Keyhole), Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band, indie pop locals The Shrinking Islands, and Patsy Hamel.

Local businesses are joining in on the fun:

  • Somerville artists have collaborated to create Fluff Boy! a 32-page comic, available at Hub Comics
  • Boutique shop Grand is celebrating with a store-wide 20% off sale, fluff t-shirts and totes available
  • Fluff drinks are available at The Independent and PA's Lounge
  • Sherman Cafe is serving up ban-worthy Fluffernutters
  • Brunch mainstay The Neighborhood is celebrating with a belgian waffle topped with strawberries, fluff and chocolate chips
