Chrome or Chromeo
-- Chrome, the San Francisco outfit who more or less invented motorik, psychedelic noise punk in the 70s has been resurrected by its guitarist Helios Creed. (We swear that that's his name.) Expect to see the band joined by more thirtytofortysomething former college radio DJs than should ever be in the same room together. Also on hand, Black Helicopter and White Horses, two separate bands. Church of Boston, 69 Kilmarnock St., 8 p.m. $10.
-- Chromeo (no relation) is a Montréal-based hipster electro revival outfit that the kids seem to enjoy. Paradise Rock Club, 967 Comm. Ave., 8 p.m. Sold out.
Hip Hop
-- Common used to be the only rapper from Chicago anybody had heard of. His head has been bared much more frequently than used to be the case, making Bostonist wonder if he misplaced that hat he had. We could use without his Gap commercials, but some of his recent material has been decent. Performing with N.E.R.D., the perpetually disappointing Neptunes side project. Orpheum Theatre, 1 Hamilton Place, 7:30 p.m. $35/$40.
-- Mass. homeboy Termanology celebrates his CD release party at Underground Hip Hop Dot Com's brick-and-mortar location. 234 Huntington Ave., 6 p.m. Free.
