Saturday Happenings

obama.jpgObamania

-- If the Obamix has left you with the need for political dance but without an outlet, head to Catalyst '08, where the likeminded will get down for Obama. Sponsored by our old friends SoJust. Middlesex Lounge, 315 Mass. Ave., 6 p.m. RSVP.

Octoberfest, Again

-- Massachusetts residents need to start training in August for the sheer volume of Octoberfests that are foisted upon them. This time the host is Harpoon Brewery, with whom Bostonist is not usually down, but we recently enjoyed its Leviathan imperial IPA, the brewing of which may have exhausted the hops population of North America, and we've gotta say: not bad. Harpoon Brewery, 306 Northern Ave., 2 p.m. $15.

Open Studios

-- There's no better way to tour Roxbury than by bike and no better excuse to explore the entire neighborhood than the 10th annual Roxbury Open Studios, and the organizers were even kind enough to suggest a few bike routes. (For those who prefer two feet to two wheels, Discover Roxbury offers a walking tour.) From Mission Hill to Fort Hill, Eliot Square to Dudley Square, scores of artists open their doors and hawk their wares. The classy apartment is covered with local art; ditch the Ikea panorama and replace it with something your neighbors made. Various locations, Roxbury, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (through Sunday). More information.

Gender Bending

-- Trannies take the stage for Traniwreck, Boston's only all-gender, all-genre burlesque variety show. Expect comedy, ruckus, and tons of gayness. An event so bizarre that Bay Windows calls it Boston's "most surreal." Great Scott, 1222 Comm. Ave., Allston, 9 p.m. $10.
