Contradictions
-- As we've noted in the past, Brazilian Girls are neither Brazilian nor girls. They are the sort of NYC dance-pop-fusion machine that all the kids seem to like these days. Their recent songs have included more electro, which suits Bostonist's tastes. Playing with fellow NYC ethnomusicologists Forro in the Dark (who don't actually play forro.) Paradise Rock Club, 967 Comm. Ave., 8 p.m. $26.
Movies
-- Riot on the Sunset Strip (1967) shares a spot with Reefer Madness in the pantheon of anti-drug movies so ineffective that the viewer suffers the immediate need to get high. An expose about drug culture in sixties California, Riot on the Sunset Strip nonetheless features performances by L.A.'s best garage bands. David Aguilar, the frontman for Chocolate Watchband, introduces the movie. Showing as a single feature, followed by the Bostonist-approved Isaac Hayes epic Truck Turner. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, 7:30p.m. and 9:30 p.m. $9.50 each.
Found Footage
-- The Found Footage Festival '08 is a touring showcase featuring film strips found in the trash, in thrift stores, warehouses, and garbage dumps across the country. Even those unconcerned about the past mental health of our nation will find reason to be worried. The trailer makes the Festival look like Gummo without the posing. Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St., Brookline, 7:30 p.m. $10.
