Sports Redux: Wake Us Up, Wake

lester.jpgIf last night left Red Sox fans feeling punchdrunk, this morning we're nursing the hangover. Last night's game would, if possible, be best left unspoken of, unremembered and, if we could figure out how to work that time machine we've been working on, unplayed.

And yet today is here, the Sox are down to the Rays two games to one, and Boston fans are turning their eyes and hopes to Tim Wakefield. While it's not do or die time quite yet, a Red Sox loss tonight might make some fans start to think about the Tobin.

We'll be gentle in our recap. Jon Lester had a top-notch, four-pitch first inning. Shortly thereafter, everything went downhill. There were four home runs this time - all Tampa Bay (B.J. Upton and Evan Longoria off Lester; Rocco Baldelli and Carlos Pena off Paul Byrd). The Sox scored their lone run off a sacrifice fly from Jacoby Ellsbury, who actually recorded a RBI, that sent in Jason Varitek, who actually found himself on base.

No other good came from this game, beyond the fact that it ended before midnight. So let's focus on tonight. Wake. Fenway. Here we go.

On the Bruins front, the team traded defenseman Andrew Alberts to Philly for Ned Lukacevic and a draft pick next year. Our special Bruins Bostonist consultant summed up this for us in one succinct response: "It's just ridiculous! Like, he's a quality defenseman! I'm offended." She also added that he's so cute. Do with that what you will.
