Drinking in Boston: The Pumpkins Are Coming!

PumpkinBonesBig.jpegHappy Belated Birthday, Redbones!

This past Tuesday, Will Meyers, head brewer for the Cambridge Brewing Company, premiered a new beer specifically in honor of Redbones' 21st birthday. Everyone in attendance cheered for Redbones for finally reaching the legal drinking age with a pint of Meyers' 21 Bones Salute.

Though their birthday was officially the 14th, you should still stop in while they continue to celebrate the 14th Annual Northwest Fest. This includes not only innumerable Oregon and Washington beers on tap (try the Rogue Smoked Ale if it's not already tapped!), but also talks from Elysian brewers in Washinton and Rogue in Oregon. Most importantly, there is food to go along with it. Redbones will host a dinner November 19 to compliment a number of Northwest beers. For more information on the dinner and reservations, click here.

Apparently the creation of an honorary brew was not enough for super-brewer Will Meyers. Or perhaps it was too much. In the midst of chopping pumpkins for the CBC's Great Pumpkin Ale (and when they say "great," they mean it) the head brewer decided it was high time for a festival honoring these great orange gourds and the nectar that doth flow forth from them. And thus was born the CBC Pumpkin Ale Festival.

On Halloween night, avoid the drunken gangs of naughty nuns and the too-cool-for-costumes frat boys and head over to the CBC for the Festival. The brewery will supply eight (eight!) different types of pumpkin beers. The night of the Great Pumpkin deserves something special, so for the first time ever the CBC will be serving non-CBC beers on tap. But with still half of the pumpkin beers made by the CBC, one might suspect Myers had one too many of the 60,000 pints of Great Pumpkin he brewed.

So there will be four CBC pumpkin brews (including Imperial Pumpkin Ale and Pumpkin Malt Liquor!), four guest pumpkin brews and even a pumpkin inspired menu. (It's like trick-or-treating for grown-ups!) Look for more on the great variety of pumpkin beers you can bring home with you next week.

But quickly while we're at it: it's never too early to be thinking of ways to get out of the family Thanksgiving dinner obligation. Check out the Cambridge Common Restaurant's option.

Sounds like this event could use Harvest Grand Pumpkin Spice Cream Liqueur.
