Pumpkins
-- The City of Boston holds the world record for most lit jack-o'-lanterns at one event: 30,128, carved and lit during the 2006 Pumpkin Festival. Last year's attempt to best that record fell short, but we're going for it again today. The event is a benefit/awareness raiser for Camp Sunshine, a summer camp for children with life threatening illnesses. City Hall Plaza, noon to 8 p.m. Free.
Regatta
-- The Head of the Charles Regatta will make it impossible to drive down Storrow Drive this weekend. Charles River, various times, Free.
Superstition
-- Who knew that charming Somerville was so full of New England dread? The Somerville Arts Union presents the Ghosts of Somerville tour, a trip through the city's cemetaries and other spooky places. Starts at 400 Somerville Ave., 4 p.m. $3/$5.
Cartoon Violence
-- 12 hours of anime movies might be just another weekend for some, but the rest of us might need to do some stretching before entering the Anime After Dark movie marathon. Presented by Resonance Features and SF34. Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square, Somerville, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. $25/$30.
