If Tom Brady really is about to propose to Gisele, he's just going to have to do it without going down on one knee. Patriots fans are all aflutter about the news that Tom's knee isn't healing right, has needed followup procedures, and the surgery may have to be redone. Oh, fantastic.
Speaking of surgery, Terry Francona is making plans for a back operation. Tony Masarotti is already in full Hot Stove League mode, trying to figure out which free agents might be coming to town for next season. Dustin Pedroia, says the Onion, is more philosophical about the end of the season.
The Phillies rode Cole Hamels' pitching and Chase Utley's bat to a 1-0 lead in the World Series. Utley pounced on Rays starter Scott Kazmir for a 2-run first-inning home run, and Hamels made only a couple mistakes as he dazzled Tampa Bay for seven innings. The Phils can certainly look to improve on the squadrons of baserunners stranded last night. The Rays can certainly improve on the Backstreet Boys' 34-minute-long National Anthem.
