OK, how should we look at this? Was Monday's news that Ty Law signed a one-year deal with the JETS and will be (possibly, physical-pending) playing the Pats on THURSDAY an example of adding insult to the season-ending injury report concerning Adalius Thomas, or was Thomas' injury just a way to kick us (keeping his arm free to recover) while we were feeling taken down by the Law? Either way, we're not happy. Forgive us, we're feeling feisty.
And when Boston is feeling feisty, what happens? People pay. Hopefully Ty and Brett Farve and the whole rest of those New Yorkers when they roll into Gillette on Thursday night. We've got the goods. We've got Cassel - and for once, we're not being sarcastic. His long ball might not be flying into Randy Moss's hands, but they're also not landing neatly in the arms of the opposing defensive linemen. Yes, we just knocked Brett Farve - and we knocked on wood.
OK, so it wasn't the best news to get to kick off a week (pun not intended, but we're keeping it). But at least we got the Mondays out of the way. Now we know what to expect - and that's a Pats-loving crowd that is going to be looking for blood on Thursday. Mangini blood. Divisional blood.
Let's focus on something positive. Like the Celtics, who showed why they're the reigning champions on Monday night. While the Raptors played a sharp three quarters of basketball, they seemed to forget that Boston sports are all about the comebacks; the Celtics started to turn things around in the third and roared through the fourth quarter to take home a 94-87 win. Down by double digits during much of the game? No problem - we've got the Big Three. Paul Pierce rocked a 36-point performance, joined in the scoring by 21 from KG and 19 from Ray Allen. They came up big (making up for last game), given that the rest of the Boston lineup failed to reach double digits.
On the hot stove front, the Red Sox coaching staff has once again become the Interview It Boys. Bench coach Brad Mills met with the Mariners brass on Monday; DeMarlo Hale is interviewing Thursday, and we continue to adore John Farrell.
