OMG, It's Edward Cullen: Boston Area Preps for Attack of Screaming Teen Girls. Your Guide to Surviving the Twilight Mall Tour

If you notice Friday that the entire teenage girl (and Twilight Mom) population of the greater Boston metro area appears to have up and disappeared, fear not. And avoid the Square One Mall in Saugus at all costs. They'll all be there - screaming loudly with the hopes that British actor Robert Pattinson will hear them and fall in love with them.

Pattinson, for those who have yet to get sucked into Stephenie Meyer's literary crack for the soul Twilight series (this Bostonist was not immune), stars in the upcoming Twilight movie as leading man Edward Cullen, just your typical absolutely gorgeous teenager vampire hanging out in Forks, WA, who happens to fall in love with a mortal girl. While the movie won't hit screens until Nov. 21, Pattinson can't go anywhere these days without hearing the shrieks of young girls who would happily trade places with Edward's paramour, Bella (Kristen Stewart).

Pattinson is making his way across the country this week, via a Hot Topic mall tour that left fans in San Francisco mobbed and injured (Monday) and Chicago fans incensed about being shut out of the event (today).

So the crew over at Hot Topic in Saugus has got to be psyched about how they'll be spending their Friday, right? Bostonist spoke with a store manager Wednesday, who said that she expects about 3,000 people to attend the event, including visitors from Florida and New York.

"We haven't answered any other questions for the last two weeks," the manager, who identified herself as Lisa, said. Mall security will be beefed up for the event and officers from the Saugus Police Department will be on the scene to control the crowd.

If you are thinking of attending the event (or know a youngster who will), here is what you need to know about how things on Friday will unfold:

Square One Mall opens at 6 am Friday. People are allowed to camp out overnight. Friday morning, patrons will form a line in an orderly fashion to prepare for Hot Topic's opening at 7 am. When the store opens, the first 500 fans in line will be allowed to buy the Twilight shirt/wristband/poster bundle that will guarantee them the chance to meet Pattinson. Fans can then leave the mall and return around 5:30 pm to line up for the event, which beings at 6 pm. Only those 500 fans will get their poster (only their poster) autographed. Cameras are prohibited.

If you are not among the lucky 500, don't worry: Pattinson will also participate in a question and answer session near Macy's from 7:30-8 pm. Good luck hearing what he says over the sound of the shrieks.

I briefly considered going to this, since the Twilight ComicCon panel was so apocalyptically entertaining, but then I saw the San Francisco report and was like, "Oh, heeellll no."

I'm kind of seriously afraid for the actors' safety at this point, honestly.

I'd also considered it, as I've just never actually witnessed a "mall tour," but forget that. I'll just wait to see the movie.

But yes, I would think that safety is a concern all around - could you imagine having to be shuttled around everything just so people who say they love you don't wind up tearing you apart? Ugh.
