Sports Redux: The Calm Before The Storm

tvs.jpgDid everyone have a nice Veteran's Day? Maybe spend a little time outdoors, or get some chores done, or quality time with the loved ones? Good, because forget it for the next couple of days. All three of our local wintery teams take the field/court/ice in the next 48 hours. And they're all pretty big games.

We'll start tonight, where the Bruins are taking their winning streak on the road to play a Blackhawk team that's got a lot more optimism than they've had in recent years. (Which can also be said about the B's. The Hawks are on a four-game winning streak of their own, capped off with back-to-back home routs of Colorado and Calgary. They haven't lost at home yet; maybe it's the organ music.

Also tonight, the Celtics have to get ready to face an Atlanta Hawks team that's undefeated, cocky, and feels it has something to prove after taking the champs to seven games in the first round last year. "“That series has done so much, starting with the confidence, but also because we were humbled in the end, it let us know we can play with the best," says Atlanta's Joe Johnson. For the C's' part, they are happy with the way their defense has been playing (as anyone not a fool would be), but they realize that the offense needs a bit of retooling. These young, hungry, good Hawks will be a good test for that.

And, of course, tomorrow night, Chapter 539 in the ongoing Pats/Jets "feud", this one with first place on the line. The added drama this time comes from Ty Law, who of course played many years with the Pats, one year with the Jets, and was re-signed by New York yesterday, because what, he remembers the playbook from four years ago? Law is already talking trash. The Patriots also have welcomed back an old friend. Hopefully, he'll be on the sidelines with a clipboard before too long.
