The Sea and Cake Set Off Alarms

The Sea and Cake was pleasant and consistent at the Paradise last year, and there's no reason to expect anything different as the band visits the Middle East tonight. Though the group's new album is titled Car Alarm, it's just as soothingly jazzy as ever--perhaps even more so--with Sam Prekop's gentle vocals and the band's delicate guitar work sounding more like lullabies more than car alarms. If we didn't know better, we might think the band's name came from the combination of gentle rhythmic waves and sweet melodies. Local openers Death Vessel and Helms (Rhode Island and Cambridge, respectively) offer similarly laid-back, borderline-precious noise. This has the makings of possibly the just-plain-nicest--and least alarming--show ever.
