The Proposition 8 Protest in Photos

Earlier today, thousands flocked to Boston's City Hall Plaza to protest California's Proposition 8, a ballot initiative that amended the state's constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The proposition passed months after the California Supreme Court had authorized same-sex weddings, leaving thousands of marriages in limbo.

Massachusetts and Connecticut are now the only two states that recognize full marriage rights for gay couples. It's fitting that Boston's turnout to the nationwide protest sponsored by Join the Impact was so vociferous and uncompromising. Those are our rights under the gun, whether we are gay or straight, and the Cradle of Liberty doesn't take such assaults lightly.

Bostonist Flickr contributor LizKDC captured the spirit of the crowd.
