Tonight: Supporting the Troops (By Drinking)

Jorge Hernandez Cultural Center, 85 West Newton Street
Friday, November 21, 7-11 pm, $45

Bostonist believes that raising public awareness of forgotten liqueurs, putting vintage barware to good use, and bringing delicious drinks back from the brink of extinction is enough public service for one organization, but the local chapter of Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails has also taken it upon themselves to raise funds for local women's charities through sale of the Little Black Book of Cocktails and, this evening, their 1940s-themed "USO Show" in the South End.

What was initially going to be a really swell cocktail party has become a theme park of Bostonian delights: Derby Dames rolling around with trays of locally stone-ground Taza Chocolate, cocktail connoisseur Brother Cleve spinning a soundtrack of vintage swing, and Thru The Keyhole Burlesque providing top-shelf cleavage. Tremont 647, Toro, Lionette’s Market, and Island Creek Oysters will provide additional nourishment, and the Ladies themselves will be on hand with Daiquiris, Scoff Laws, and their ilk. Bostonist is looking forward to trying the Rosita: Milagro Silver Tequila, Campari, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth. Proceeds benefit the brave women of the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, but they had us at Campari.
