Sports Redux: About Matt Cassel

cassel.jpg Bostonist needs to take a moment and process the words we are about to write. Despite the way the 2008-2009 season is shaping up, despite the stats, despite the confidence on display each and every Patriots game, it still seems strange to feel this way.

This Thanksgiving, we are thankful for Matt Cassel.

We are thankful for the need to draw comparisons between Cassel and Brady. We are thankful for the 48 Patriot points scored against the Dolphins last week. We are thankful for the composure, the running and the ability to get step out from beneath the Brady shadow.

We hope to be thankful for the Pats brass securing Cassel for the future when he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

The Celtics are going to be facing down the Warriors tonight, and it's comforting to know that jitters over the slow starts that have marked this season are noted by the folks right in the thick of it. Paul Pierce knows that this is a different league than it was the season before, and the Celtics can't rely on their general state of awesomeness basic skills to get the job done. If the league's upped its game, the Celts must follow suit

Good news on the Red Sox front: if you're thinking of taking a trip to Ft. Myers in the spring (we use the term loosely, of course, given how Boston will still be covered with snow and ice), you might have a chance to see Tazawa! The word is that Junichi Tazawa wants to join the Boston organization. A big reason? He's a huge Dice-K fan. The question remains, however: will he get to meet Jason Varitek there as well?
