Were you still feeling sleepy after all of that turkey (or Tofurkey) on Friday? The brutal beatdowns delivered by Boston teams at the Garden were a jolt to the senses, a kick to the systems, and otherwise just dominating displays of athleticism.
We'd say that neither the Islanders nor Sixers saw what hit them, but we saw those fights on the ice. There was no mistaking who was doing the hitting and what was being done.
First, the Bruins: a 7-2 crushing of the Islanders during one of the most physically aggressive games hockey fans have seen from the Boston team this season. A close game until the third, Friday's ice matchup included a third quarter that was pretty much all Bruins all the time. By game's end, the B's had enjoyed goals from Michael Ryder (2), Chuck Kobasew, Blake Wheeler, David Krejci, Dennis Wideman, and Phil Kessel. The Bash Brothers of the day? Milan Lucic (surprise, surprise) and Shane Hnidy, the latter of whom bled red for the sake of the black and gold.
So that happened - and if this keeps happening whenever the team wears its new jerseys, we'll almost be able to get past the fact that we find them U-G-L-Y. And then, after ice was replaced with parquet, the Celtics kept the domination going (apparently they want it as bad as the Bruins do). The Celts went against their MO on Friday night, deciding to jump out to an early lead and keep tacking on the buffer over the course of the game against Philly. Ray Allen notched 23 points for the Celts, assisted by Kevin Garnett's 16, as Boston rolled to their 102-78 victory. Also notable? Rajon Rondo's 12 glorious assists.
