Movies
-- The HFA's Orson Welles retrospective includes two programs of rarely screened Welles ephemera. Tonight, catch the first installment of Welles Rarities, "My Name is Orson Welles," a collection of his work for television that omits, we believe, his Paul Masson performances (above). Program introduced by Welles scholar Stefan Drössler. Harvard Film Archive, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. $8/$6.
Rock
-- The Milky Way's free Sundaze series plays on an abstract tip tonight. Keys to the Streets of Fear sound like a Memphis rockabilly band as recorded by the members of New Zealand drone outfit Dead C. Nights Trees plays heavy, distorted jam music that brings to mind Japanese guitar bands like Highrise or Magical Power Mako. Listen for the song called "Smurficide" and weep. Magic Magic is just weird enough not to be a sucky pop band. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. Free.
Centenaries
-- The NEC continues its celebration of American composer Elliott Carter's 100th birthday with performances of his face melting String Quartet No. 5 (performed by Laurel Quartet), his Quintet for piano and string quartet (performed by the Claremont Trio with violinist Kristopher Tong and violist Mai Motobuchi) and his Sonata for cello and piano (performed by cellist Song-Ie Do and pianist Eliko Akahori). Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, 280 The Fenway, 1:30 p.m. $23.
