Tuesday Happenings

many-mansions.jpgMinimalism

-- Jamaica Plain band Many Mansions plays the sort of environmental, atmospheric ambient music that you would expect to have heard on a college radio station at 3 a.m. 10 years ago. Lots of drones and slowly developing melodic ideas and drumming. Performing with Turtle Ambulance, Truman Peyote, and Guatemala City. TT The Bear's Place, 10 Brookline St., Cambridge, 9 p.m. $7.

Centenaries, Premieres

-- The NEC's celebration of American composer Elliott Carter's 100th birthday has consisted mostly of his already familiar works, like his famous string quartets. Tonight, the conservatory has a few surprises in store, including the world premiere of Tintinnabulation, performed by the NEC Percussion Ensemble. Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 30 Gainsborough St., 8 p.m. Free.

The End of Karaoke

-- The Milky Way's series of live band karaoke nights, featuring the talents of locals Huevos Rancheros, ends tonight. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., 9 p.m. Free.
