Bazaar Bizarre Preview: Jenine Bressner Fireworks

jenine-bressner-fireworks.jpgThe Boston edition of Bazaar Bizarre is coming up this Sunday, December 7, from noon to 7pm at The Castle at Park Plaza (Arlington and Columbus). It's an opportunity to peruse handmade crafts from local (and far-flung) artists. Learn a new crafting technique, get a little something for yourself, or stock up on those obligatory holiday gifts this weekend.

To help you prepare for the fair, we're running profiles of crafters (courtesy of the wonderful Bazaar Bizarre Boston Blog) all week. These will introduce you to different crafters and aid you in deciding which booths to visit (you probably don't have time for all seven bajillion, but you can try). Today, we're pleased to present Jenine Bressner Fireworks!

Who are you and where are you from?

Jenine Bressner of "Jenine Bressner Fireworks!" in Providence, Rhode Island.

How did you get your start crafting?

I began selling things that I made when I was seven. It started with hair accessories and necklaces. In college I would sell glass beads and jewelry at the RISD student sales or to my friends. After I graduated I sold (and still do sell) things at the RISD Alumni sales.

glass-tree.jpgWhat inspires you the most to create?

Being alive! Having and feeling this energy that I can harness and channel because I can; I am free to and I am able to.

What are your favorite materials to work with? Do you have a favorite color palette?

I love working with soft glass, textiles, opaque watercolors, and brush pens. My favorite color is color.

Any exciting future plans or developments in the works for your business?

More intense textile jewelry, and children's books!

Who are some of your favorite indie artist/ crafters and why do you love them?

I love Susie Ghahremani because she's my sister from another mother. Elyse Allen has a wonderful sense of color and materials. I love anybody who chooses to spend most of their time making challenging things as well as they possibly can.

What are some other things you like to do when you are not busy making awesome stuff?

pyrex-chain.jpgSinging, going to shows, riding bikes, making good food.

Why should someone shopping at the Bazaar be sure to stop by your table?

Glass flowers, glass bees, and glass sushi!

What is your favorite song or album to listen to while working?

Lately, Pavement's Brighten the Corners and DJ Pica Pica Pica. Often Bjork, Talking Heads, Yma Sumac.

Your favorite celebrity or historical figure (dead or alive) shops at your table at the Bazaar and makes a purchase (work with me here). Who are they, what did they buy and why did it catch their eye?

How many people are going to say Bjork? Elsa Klensch (hosted Style on CNN for 20 years) would buy three Pyrex glass chains because they look so elegant and they match everything! It'd also be cool if Buckminster Fuller came over and wanted to talk about glass and structural integrity.
