"It's like there were three Rondos out there," marveled Kevin Garnett. "He was everywhere tonight." The ever-improving Rajon Rondo had his best game ever last night, notching his first-ever triple-double as the Celts avenged their first loss of the season with a 114-96 thumping of the Pacers.
Rondo was in triple-double territory in the first half (10/8/9), and got his 10th rebound early in the third to be the first Celtic since Ryan Gomes to notch a 3-D. Asked if a quadruple-double was a possibility in the future, Doc Rivers said, "Yeah, with turnovers, maybe." Nobody's getting complacent.
Rondo wasn't the only star in the win: Ray Allen led the team with 31, KG had 26 with 14 rebounds, and Perk got 10 boards as well. "They really had too many weapons for us tonight," said Pacers coach Jim O'Brien, who knows from being overmatched on the parquet floor. And, just because that's what he does, Dan Shaughnessy feels the need to write one of those "nobody can beat us" columns that he can use as evidence of local overconfidence if something goes wrong.
A couple of interesting local contracts yesterday: the Red Sox, realizing that a 17-year-old kid with a Rookie of the Year, a World Series, and an MVP under his belt is a good thing, signed
a six-year deal for a shade over $40 million. Will the captaincy be open soon? And the Patriots brought back Roosevelt Colvin, who's trading in the life of a hair-braider and UPS store magnate to provide defensive depth for the Pats. At 31, Colvin is 11 years younger than the average Patriots front-seven man.
You can now register for the chance to be denied the chance to buy Red Sox tickets for select games. If you're one of the lucky ones (you won't be), you can attend a Christmas at Fenway event on December 13th, and buy Sox Packs and some single-game tickets. It starts at 10. Otherwise, at 10:05, you can log onto your favorite online scalper and pay 400% of face value.
