Sports Redux: There Will Be No Oranges

Well, so much for that. BC's hopes of the ACC Championship and ending up in the Orange Bowl came crashing to earth yesterday, as the Eagles were pummeled by Virginia Tech 30-12 in the title game in Tampa. Hope the Music City Bowl is an acceptable substitute. Freshman quarterback Dominique Davis will rue this day, as he was sacked five times, threw two interceptions and fumbled. At least he'll get more chances.

Things in Florida were going a lot better for another local team, as the Bruins Train kept rolling, powered by the Phil Kessel Train. Kessel scored in the fifth straight game, giving him 16 for the year and powering the B's to a 4-0 whipping of the Panthers. Michael Ryder, Shane Hnidy and Blake Wheeler had the other goals, while Manny Fernandez stopped all 29 Florida shots for his seventh straight win. It's nice to have two red-hot goalies, isn't it?

The Patriots have a must-win game today in Seattle. Everyone (well, us) expected the Seahawks to cruise in a wretched division, but they've out-wretcheded everyone's expectations, going 2-10 so far and making everyone on Seattle wish Oklahoma City had stolen a different team. In other words, yeah, it's a must-win.
