Bostonist is looking forward to making our way to the Boston Center for the Arts tonight to see Bad Habit Productions' ongoing production of The Laramie Project. We've been hearing strong buzz about the production, which has been brought to Boston ten years after the death of Matthew Shepard. Shepard, as many know, was a gay University of Wyoming student killed near Laramie in October 1998; the Moisés Kaufman play showcases reaction to the hate crime.
Tonight's 8 p.m. performance of the show, we hear, will feature drama on the BCA blackbox stage and outside the venue. The Westboro Baptist Church, otherwise known as the Fred Phelps Organization Busily Spewing Hate Every Which Way, is slated to protest tonight's production.
The protest comes at the end of a busy day for the WBC, as they are also scheduled to picket New Hampshire's Manchester High School West, the Swedish Consulate, and the British Consulate. Why? Well, the WBC says that the last one is obvious: God hates the Queen. Oh, and she's a whore. Who knew?
This Bostonist has enjoyed past Bad Habit productions, and reports we've received about this production predict that emotions will be run through the ringer with Laramie. The show closes its run with two performances Saturday - click here for ticket information.
Geographical error corrected, but this Bostonist apologizes nonetheless. Coffee had yet to kick in.

While all those flyover states look pretty much the same, I'm reasonably certain that Matthew was a student at the University of Wyoming, not Wisconsin.
I have seen the show and can attest that it is powerful and very well done. I highly recommend you go see this play!
