Boston Blotter: Cabbie Rape Warning Issued; Odegard Surrenders

crime_scene_tape.jpg-- Boston police have issued a warning about a string of sexual assault cases that began when the victims got into the wrong cab. Five incidents of sexual assaults involving cabbies or livery drivers have been reported since October 4th. Suspect descriptions have varied, and at least one suspect has been jailed. The BPD offers a list of prevention tips to keep women safe. Among the most useful: only hail cabs that have Boston licenses, stay in groups, and never get in the front seat of a taxi. [BPDNews]

-- Steven Odegard, the 41-year-old Dorchester man suspected in the January murder of Daniel Yakoleff, a South End hairdresser, turned himself in today. He was arraigned and held without bail. [Herald, Suffolk County D.A.]

-- Police in Hyannis found the body of a teenage boy burning in the woods last night. Police believe that the victim knew his attacker. [Herald]

-- Plainville police have tracked down the man who bought the booze for Taylor Meyer, the high school senior who died during a party in October. They hope to file criminal charges. [Herald]

-- Prosecutors will defer prosecution of Powers Fasterners, Inc. after it paid a $16 million settlement to the city and state for the death of Milena Del Valle, the woman who was killed by falling ceiling tiles in a Big Dig tunnel in 2006. [Herald]

All charges alleged until proven under law.
