Sports Redux: Hats Off To David Krejci

krejcitor.jpgIn a way, it's hard to believe that only one Bruins scored a hat trick last night. But in a game of shaky defense, multiple goalie changes, and an insane amount of offense, it was David Krejci who sent headgear flying, notching his first career hat trick as the Bruins outlasted Toronto 8-5.

It was a wild game. The Bruins scored twice early - Marco Sturm (welcome back, and sorry you got hurt again) and Krejci - chasing Toronto goalie Vesa Toskala from the game (he'd get chased back in later, when Curtis Joseph proved just as porous). The second period was a 4-4 madhouse, with Savard, Kessel (twice) and Krejci scoring for the B's and Tim Thomas giving up just as many to the Leafs. We're pinning the blame for at least three of those on the D, though.

Thomas was relieved of his duties in the third, and Manny Fernandez sparkled as he took the B's home. Michael Ryder and (no suspense) Krejci scored to pad the lead and send everyone home happy if cold-headed. Even Claude Julien, who said of Krejci: "I don't think we'll be sending him down now."

The Mark Teixiera thing has become a soap opera. Last night, ESPN.com was reporting that the Sox were about to close the deal. Then John Henry sent out a note that said that the Sox were giving up their quest for the slugger, citing "his other offers" and the gloomy economy. One theory making the rounds is that Henry's calling Scott Boras' bluff, which seems risky, since Boras is the kind of sleazeball that would play poker with sunglasses, and has mad bluffing skills Henry hasn't even dreamed of. And the Angels and Yankees both claim they haven't made outlandish offers. So, clearly, somebody's lying misinformed.

Celtics-Bulls tonight. Take public transportation, if you want to go to the Garden and see the Globe's newly-minted Bostonian of the Year. Read the article. Seriously. We know it won't be the first "it's amazing to see this troubled and immature kid grow up to take his place in our hearts" story you've read, and it won't be the last, but you'll like it anyway.
