Sunday Happenings

Weird Music

-- Akron/Family plays the sort of experimental folk music that's designed to disturb rather than amuse. The trio split an album with former Swan M. Gira's Angels of Light and cut a record with jazz percussionist Hamid Drake. They are either experimental freak-out emissaries or just a bunch of NYC hipsters. You decide. TT the Bear's Place, 10 Brookline St., Cambridge, 9 p.m. $10/$12.

Children Who Rock

-- Philadelphia's Paul Green School of Rock sends its best and brightest on tour every year. Somerville may not be the epicenter of rock music, but if you cheer for the kids loud enough, you might fool them into thinking so. Johnny D's Uptown, 17 Holland St., Somerville, 4:30 p.m. $15.

Niceing up the Dance

-- Despite its name, Jamaica Plain has not been a great place to dance to reggae in recent years. DJ Generoso plans to change that tonight. The former WMBR DJ spins classic tunes from the actual Jamaica—ska, rocksteady, and reggae—on the original 45s. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. Free.

Sex and Drugs

-- Sex and Drugs Trivia is always a good bet on Sunday nights. Mistress Maureen has a special post-holiday blues installment prepared for you tonight. Grand prize is tickets to the Savant Project's New Year's party. Second place? Tickets to Centerfolds. The Savant Project, 1625 Tremont St., Mission Hill, 8 p.m. Free.
