Saturday Happenings

ice-skating.jpg Whether Boston is still in its winter holiday doldrums or not, there are those of us who are absolutely stir-crazy today. Unfortunately, there aren't many notable events out there today, what with all the universities still closed and what have you. Rather than throw up our hands in defeat, however, we've decided to suggest a few Happenings that take place on the regular in the hopes that we might stir ourselves out of the house.

Ice Skating

-- It happens every day in the winter. The kids love it. It can be awfully cute. And if you stick with a DCR rink, it can be dirt cheap. The frog pond is the obvious choice, but keep in mind alternatives like Kelly Rink in JP (call ahead).

Dancing Salsa

-- Your friends are out of town and it is raining and cold. It's the perfect excuse to go to Mango's Latin Dance Night. Featuring salsa, merengue, bachata, and reggaeton, Mango's claims to be the oldest continuously operating dance night of its kind. Keep in mind that the Milky Way's days are numbered. If you don't go now, you may never have the chance. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. $10.

Jazz

-- Wally's Jazz Cafe offers one variety of jazz or another every night of the week, but Saturday is often the best day to go. Don't worry about the packed bar. Stay kind to other patrons and they will return the favor. Wally's Cafe, 427 Mass. Ave., 9 p.m. No cover.
