Well, it had to end sometime. The Bruins' longest winning streak since 1973 came in emphatic fashion, as the boys were outworked and outplayed by the Sabres at the Garden yesterday. Buffalo scored twice early, and it was a hole the B's never got out of, as they didn't get a lot of shots on Justin Miller and flat-out missed some of the shots they did get.
The Bruins were united in their assessment of what went wrong. Shane Hnidy: "We didn't capitalize on our chances." Zdeno Chara: "We had some really good chances, some quality chances. [Miller] made some big saves for them." Tim Thomas: "We were almost rewarded with the bounces, but we weren't able to put them away." So it's back to the drawing board, and back to work against Minnesota on Tuesday.
The NFL playoffs began yesterday, and ended just as quickly for two teams. BC star and Rookie of the Year frontrunner Matt Ryan had a pretty rotten day, as his Falcons fell to Arizona. The Cardinals, NFL mainstays, won their third playoff game ever. Meanwhile, recently-named MVP Peyton Manning has his trophy to console him, as his Colts (who had been red-hot) lost to the Chargers for the second postseason in a row. Today, Philly visits the Vikings and the Ravens visit (sigh) Miami.
