A strong veteran lineup will be bolstered this season with the energy of dynamic newcomers set to find their places within an established, successful organization.
No, we're not talking about the 2009 Red Sox. But the latest installment of the Foundation to be Named Later's annual Hot Stove, Cool Music winter performance is set to kick off Saturday; the lineup for the seventh annual extravaganza suggests that Peter Gammons and the Epstein Brothers (that would be Paul and Theo) are committed to a formula that sells out the Dise every year.
On the roster this year? The regular vets are back: Gammons and his Hot Stove All-Stars (which includes Sox GM Epstein); Buffalo Tom's Bill Janovitz; Kay Hanley (joined this year by the rest of Letters to Cleo); and emcee Mike O'Malley. Also on the lineup include Jenny Dee & the Deelinquents, American Hi-Fi; and the Figgs. Traditionally, the event also includes a silent raffle, mid-show auctions, and chances to pose with the Red Sox World Series trophies, although we haven't seen confirmation to that effect.
Since former Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo will be performing in Foxboro tonight, we wouldn't be surprised if we saw him make another appearance HSCM appearance. Arroyo stole the show with his endearing-if-not-super-awkward cover song selection last year (and we still remember how angry it made folks back in Reds country).
Bostonist was at last year's event and offered up our take. The bottom line: know that it's a feel-good event, not an all-out rock/baseball spectacular and you'll enjoy yourself just fine.
Gammons and Theo Epstein will also hold their annual roundtable at Fenway Park on Saturday, from 1-3 p.m.
