"If you did not know that the Dunkin Donut or Egg McMuffin you had for breakfast contained more calories than Michael Phelps eats in a week, you might just deserve the early death that obesity can bring."

Interesting, considering that many news sources report that Michael Phelps eats in the neighborhood of 12,000 calories a day while training. While racing during his tour days, Lance Armstrong ate in the neighborhood of 4,000 calories a day just in carbohydrates. In my own personal experience, the healthiest I ever was was when I ate about 2,500-3,000 calories a day. That's because I worked as a bike messenger. I spent 8 hours a day performing high-level aerobic activity.

People overemphasize food intake in discussions of health and weight. Physical activity is the key ... which I admit is as difficult in Boston as it is here in Chicago.

To be fair, this:
Are people truly so unaware of what's sitting on their plates that they're accidentally consuming electronics, small children, and insects while talking to their friends?is entirely possible. I was picking a friend up at the airport last week, and some people coming in off some other flight (I wish I knew which city it was so I could avoid it) definitely had weak but extant gravitational fields.
