Boston played host to another of those two-sport doubleheaders on Sunday, and the Garden v2.0 was packed all day long with crowds gathered to watch the Bruins and Celtics play. While the teams split the day - Bs lost to the Blues, 5-4, in an overtime shootout; Celt handily defeated the Suns, 104-87 - both sets of fans were treated to high-intensity action.
During the early game, the Bruins and Blues managed to get through two periods of intense but low-scoring action. During the third period, however, all hell broke loose. Trailing St. Louis 2-1 entering the third, the Bruins managed to score three goals (Michael Ryder, PJ Axelsson, and Zdeno Chara) within 99 seconds. Let's put this into context: David Krejci recorded two assists less time it takes to brush your teeth in the morning. So the Bs are up and are able to withstand a late-in-game David Perron goal, things are looking good, and then it happens.
One of the commentators says that it "would take a miracle" for the Blues to get a point" for the game. And BAM. A last-second shot from David Backes that looks as if it's more suited for Fenway Park than the Garden slips behind a shocked Tim Thomas. Tie game. Shootout. Blues take home the win.
The Celts didn't make their game quite as exciting, but that meant that fans could sit back and breathe a little more. With their sound beating of the Suns, the Celtics have won their fifth straight game and found their game-leading scorer in the form of Rajon Rondo. Rondo's 23 points was followed up by 20 from Ray Allen and 16 from KG. On the Phoenix front, Shaq led Suns scoring with 16.
