Open Mics

-- Soulkore's Stardust Open Mic night might be the only regular Milky Way event with the full endorsement of the Zulu Nation. It's an evening of spoken word, hip hop, and reggae, backed with a live band. Tonight, expect entertainment from Mwalim, Letia Larok & Troy Durden, and the Dis n Dat Band. Hosted by DJ Nomadik. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. $5.

Movies

-- India is hardly a stronghold of queer filmmaking, so the work of Sridhar Rangayan is an important corrective. Best known for his films The Pink Mirror and Yours Emotionally, Rangayan explores the Indian queer underground, examining a side of Indian life that is stridently ignored by Bollywood. His 2007 feature 68 Pages uses a counselor's diary as a plot device to present a portrait of HIV in India. A dance performance by Mesma (Sudarshan) Belsare follows the screening. Presented by CineMental. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, 9:30 p.m. $10.

Improvisation

-- Outpost 186's electro-acoustic improvisation series continues with a performance by Anthony Coleman (who may or may not be this Anthony Coleman, James Coleman, and Lou Cohen. Features laptop, theremin, and probably other instruments, although you wouldn't know from the venue's terrible webpage. Outpost 186, 186 1/2 Hampshire St., Inman Square, Cambridge, 8 p.m. $10/$5.
