Sunday Happenings

Weird Western Mass

-- It seems like every week weirdos arrive in Boston from the other side of the state, and, this week, they've brought their leader. Thurston Moore's guitar duo Northampton Wools anchors a showcase of eclectic freak-out music, featuring spaz rockers Fat Worm of Error, Grey Skull, Tarp, and Pak. Improbably free. Milky Way Lounge, 403 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 9 p.m. Free.

Dance

-- The White Box Project is an attempt to bring contemporary dance and music into the clubs and bars of Cambridge. It's curated by BU professor Michael Jahoda and features young dancers and musicians working in a variety of traditions. Tonight's performance will take place among the crowd, "erasing any physical barriers between [it] and the performers." Middlesex Lounge, 315 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 7 p.m. $10.

Movies

-- There are no E.M. Forster fans, only E.M. Forster obsessives. It's a good bet that, if you're into Forster, you've probably already seen David Lean's adaptation of A Passage to India (1984), but have you seen it from a balcony on a rear-projection silver screen? Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge. Tickets and showtimes.

Retrospectives

-- NEC faculty member Malcolm Peyton sees his oeuvre performed tonight. Including the world premiere of his piece Lyric Meditation, the showcase features a variety of compositions for a smattering of instruments. Performers include tenor Gregorio Rangel, mezzo-soprano D'Anna Fortunato, and the Borromeo String Quartet. Jordan Hall, New England Conservatory, 30 Gainsborough St., 8 p.m. Free.
