For all the Bruins' success this year, they hadn't figured out a way to beat Washington. The Capitals were 2-0 against our hometown heroes, and nipping (well...10 points behind) at their heels for top spot in the East.
But the Bruins were as close to a full roster as they've been in forever, with Lucic, Bergeron and Ference back on the ice. And even though Tim Thomas struggled a little bit early, dropping the B's into a 2-1 first period hole, the Bruins were eager to fight back. Bergeron found Marc Savard for a power play goal to tie it, while Thomas settled in and stopped six Washington power plays. And 1:55 into overtime, David Krejci's pass to Savard bounced off a Washington defender and into history. The Devils await on Thursday.
Tom Brady, the word on the street says, is practicing and will be ready to go for the season opener in September, hopefully for more than 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the photographic evidence of Tom and Gisele goofing off on the beach has left Dan Shaughnessy questioning the very nature of masculinity. We linked, but we don't recommend. And Pats fans, really...we know last year hurt, but there are better ways of dealing with the pain than stealing the Giants' rings.
The Celtics will have to face Sacramento tonight without Brian Scalabrine, who was on the receiving end of a nasty bump and has a concussion. Sorry to all those who will be forced to just watch the game tonight. Man Without A Team Stephon Marbury spoke yesterday, and America yawned.
While we're hoping we never hear about that deal again, we're really hoping something comes of L'Affaire Varitek very soon. The clock is ticking.
