The debates will continue well into this season and beyond: is the 2009 Jason Varitek worth $5 million and several months of speculation?
We're just happy that we'll be able to debate it with him on our side. The Sox captain/catcher signed his contract on Friday for half of what the Red Sox were originally willing to offer him with arbitration and a fraction of what He Who Shall Not Be Named (oh, sorry, Scott Boras) told Tek he would be worth. This hasn't been the greatest example of contract negotiation, but we'll take it. Frankly, we just hope Tek takes it like a leader and cowboys up acts like an idiot is ready to deliver during the 2009 season.
The Celtics got gritty out in Detroit on Friday night, grinding out their tenth consecutive win with a 86-78 victory over the Pistons. While things were intense throughout, they were elevated during the fourth, when everybody started pushing everybody else and Kendrick Perkins got himself ejected. When the smoke cleared, the Cs found themselves in the position they like best: winners.
Kevin Garnett scored 22, Paul Pierce had 20 points and Ray Allen added 14.
Finally in football news: this just creeped us out. Is it possible that we have a Stepford quarterback?
