Could there be a new top dog in the Beanpot? It's still BU's tournament to lose - they're #1 in the country and have won 11 out of the last 13 - but after yesterday, there's a lot of hope down on Huntington Avenue that things might change this year. The Terriers barely survived a hungry Harvard team, falling behind early and needing a bunch of late scores. Meanwhile, the Huskies, #3 in the country and sniffing their first Beanpot since 1988, routed BC 6-1 on the strength of goalie Brad Thiessen, who stopped 45 out of 46.
So it's Terriers and Huskies for the big prize next Monday. B line versus E line. Look out, fire hydrants.
And please, kids, whatever happens, use fire hydrants or (even better) actual restrooms, and not Patriots quarterbacks. Matt Cassel was waiting in line at a gents' in Tampa when someone tried to cut in front of him. When Cassel told him to wait his turn, the possibly-inebriated fellow gave Matt a partial soaking and got ejected. Probably a Jets fan. Cassel reportedly shook it off (the incident) and returned to the party.
The NHL trading deadline approaches, and while the Bruins are understandably happy with things the way they're going, they're not averse to adding someone if the price is right. The Herald throws around some names. The Celtics hit Philly tonight without KG, who's resting for the upcoming Lakers game. We hope.
And Manny Ramirez turned down a one-year, $25 million offer from the Dodgers. To be fair, Scott Boras turned it down. It's hard to picture Manny actually being in the inner circle of these negotiations. Don't give up hope yet, Worcester.
