Sports Redux: Jesus Did It Again

rayatthebuzzer.jpg J.R. Giddens may not contribute a lot to the Celtics this season. The first-round pick is doing fine in the D-League, but isn't really ready to contribute at an NBA level. But on the bench in Philly last night, he provided us a worthy candidate for Quote of the Year: "He got game! He got game! I think Jesus did it again!"

It's hard to add to that, but we'll try. Without KG for the second straight game, the Celtics struggled in Philly. Paul Pierce kept them hanging around late, but the Celtics never led in the fourth quarter. Until. Pierce found Ray, who tied the game at 97. Andre Iguodala's basket gave the Sixers the lead, but Pierce found Ray again (what a pass, by the way), all alone in the corner. Catch and release. Ballgame. "Give us one shot to win it and we'll be good," bubbled coach Doc Rivers afterward. He got game.

So that's 12 in a row for the C's, who clinched a .500 record for the season (whew) and will pump Garnett full of Theraflu to get him ready for the Lakers game tomorrow night. The Lakers will be without center Andrew Bynum tomorrow and for weeks to come, so at least their readymade excuse is...well, ready.

Poor Philadelphia has no time to recover, since another first-place Boston team hits town tonight. Steve Buckley notes the incredible fact that the Bruins haven't been blown out once this season.

The Globe takes a different and interesting tack in profiling BC women's basketball coach Sylvia Crawley, who designs her own clothes, which makes sense because nice outfits for 6'5" women aren't easy to come by. We look forward to a similar profile of the rigor Bill Belichick goes through in picking out his gameday wear.
