The Globe discovered snow last week. Then we learned it's dangerous to sled on it. Now, it's dangerous to put it anywhere.
Yes, snow threatens our lives in more ways than one. Not only should we avoid sliding down snowy hills, we should also avoid removing snow from busy areas and putting it in less busy areas, which function as temporary snow dumps. These "snow dumps," or "snow farms," as they are also called, grow tall mounds of dirty snow that are both ugly and environmentally unfriendly. The road salt used to melt treacherous ice functions as a pollutant, making it undesirable to dump snow in lakes and rivers. And snow's dangerous even on the ground, as the salt leeches into the soil and contaminates groundwater.
There's just no way to win. Clearly, the scourge that is snow must be eliminated from our lives forever. The only solution? Get on that truck to Florida.
