Boston Viral Music Video: Pretty Thick Passion for Valentine's

Boston Viral Video is on vacation for the next two weeks. In its stead, Nick Curran will bring us a collection of quality music videos released by bands in Boston. Check it!

Pretty & Nice - Recording "Get Young"

This isn’t as much a music video as a fragmented look behind the scenes of Pretty & Nice’s seven-month labor on its debut LP, "Get Young." Get inside the minds of Jeremy, Holden, and Bobby and watch as their sanity slowly erodes at the knobs of a 24-track mixer. Quotable:

Jeremy: “Holden, any thoughts?”

Holden: “I turned off my brain hours ago”

Passion Pit
- Sleepyhead

Watch front man Michael Angelakos’s head spin around a pole inside a cube to strobing lights and jagged lettering. There are also disembodied, clapping hands and a ghost-powered kick drum. Oh, and the keyboard plays itself and the speakers shoot neon pastels. Um, what? The song is also insanely catchy and almost impossible to sing yourself, which makes it that much more difficult to extricate from the depths of your head.

Thick as Thieves - The Octopus

With a choral hook of “It’s got so complicated now,” the song speaks to fantastical high school triumph, and the video is an accurate portrayal. There’s a sequenced dance-fight between the bully and the geek, shot against an all-black background, making for a dreamlike landscape. There’s the West Side Story-esque faceoff between opposing cliques. And then a robot octopus attacks. Also, lots of spirit fingers. Or jazz hands. However you interpret it.
