It's the fifth annual Chisels and Chainsaws ice carving competition, which pits eight teams from Boston's various art schools against each other in ice sculpture combat. Vote on your favorite ice sculpture between 2 and 4 p.m. Christopher Columbus Park, North End, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Free.
Garage Rock
Live music has been back at Charlie's Kitchen for a few weeks, but it always takes us time to notice things like that. Triple Thick offers surf and garage rock that is three times wider than the competition. Playing with Stump the Undertaker's Organ and the Bright Hours. Charlie's Kitchen, 10 Eliot St., Cambridge, 9 p.m. $5.
Charity DJing
They may not be Shepard Fairey, but they're still pretty rad. Brad of Bradley's Almanac and Ryan Walsh of Hallelujah the Hills DJ a release party for Dark Was the Night, a Red Hot charity compilation put together by Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National. The compilation features music from Andrew Bird, The Decemberists, Feist, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst, Yeasayer, and more. 8pm, River Gods, 125 River St, Cambridge. More info about the event and the compilation. (KS)
