Movies
Though William Friedkin is better known for films like The French Connection and The Exorcist, his 1977 jungle film Sorcerer might be his finest work. A remake of Henri-Georges Clouzot's The Wages of Fear, Friedkin's film is the better realized, and Roy Schneider's performance is amazing. Four criminals, a rickety truck filled with nitroglycerin, and an oil well fire in a Central American banana republic: the recipe for suspense. Friedkin will be on hand. Harvard Film Archive, Carpenter Center, 24 Quincy St., Cambridge, 7 p.m. $10.
Meat
Meat Meet 2 is local food blogger (and sometimes Bostonist contributor) JJ Gonson's meat party. She will be filling orders for sustainably and locally raised meat with the help of Stillman's Farm. Harvest Food Co-op Parking Lot, Central Square, Cambridge, 3 p.m. [More information]
Punk Rock Benefits
Great Scott is hosting a two-day benefit for the survivors of Ron Holbrook, a stalwart of the Boston punk rock scene. Today's showcase features the Welch Boys, Shiner 8, Mark Lind and the Unloved, the Ashers, Drago, Nowhere USA, and the Bloodshot Hooligans. Great Scott, 1222 Comm. Ave., Allston, 8 p.m. $10.
Afrobeat
It's black history month, and to celebrate, Uhuru Afrika offers an Afrobeat throwdown. Featuring DJs from Boston and beyond, it's an evening of Afrobeat, soul, disco, and more. Julius "The Mad Thinker," Adam Gibbons, KCiv, and Cesar de la Salsa will be moving the crowd. AllAsia Bar, 334 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 9 p.m. $10/$5.
Hipsters in Underpants
In the arc of winter, February might be the apex. You've put on weight, your body hasn't seen the sun in months, and your temper is short. That's the perfect time to mingle with strangers in their underwear, right? The Savant Project sponsors an underwear party with a strict no-dress code. Attendees have no guarantee that they won't end up an answer to a question at tomorrow's Sex and Drugs Trivia. The Savant Project, 1625 Tremont St., 10:30 p.m. $10. RSVP required.
