A Commonwealth of Casinos?

Once Sal DiMasi resigned, it appeared that the likelihood of casino gambling in Massachusetts increased significantly. Robert A. DeLeo, the new speaker, isn't against bringing slot machines to horse and dog tracks.

Are casinos coming here? Not so fast.

The Globe reminded us today that the economy is bad in Las Vegas. Gambling moguls are losing money, and stock prices of Vegas companies are dropping. Who knew that rich guys and hookers could struggle?

An inviting visual provided in the piece compares the gambling industry to a broke gambler with a hangover.

Governor Patrick, Richard Fields of Suffolk Downs and other interested parties quoted in the Globe still think some form of casino gambling can make it in Massachusetts.

Does approving and building casinos guarantee new revenue? No. Ask Rhode Island.
