"It was an emotionless game and if I’m somebody on the outside watching our team right now, I don’t see a lot of character that you could really identify with." - Andrew Ference
These are not good times for the Bruins. Sure, things looked OK last week after their Duck Hunt, but last night, they were smacked around at home by the Flyers, 4-2, and the trend of the last few weeks looks only slightly better than the world economy. Staked to a 1-0 lead, Manny Fernandez let Philly past him for four unanswered scores and the Bruins' eighth loss in eleven games. "Maybe we'll be able to forget this one," said a hopeful Claude Julien afterwards.
Now it's hurry up and wait for the Bruins, who have until this afternoon's trading deadling to decide if and what they're going to do to shake things up. The Globe has some of the rumors, but the general feeling is, don't expect anything huge.
Also don't expect to see J.D. Drew in Sox camp for a few days. He was hustled back to Boston to get a shot for his back pain, which gives Dan Shaughnessy a chance to partially justify the money the Globe is paying him for his Florida vacation. Yesterday, Jon Lester pitched two perfect innings, then watched as the bullpen lavishly imploded and sent the Sox to a 9-8 loss to Cincinnati. But for any made-up controversy, you have to go to (drumroll) the Yankees, where A-Rod said some nice things about Mets SS Jose Reyes, which the New York press gratefully turned into an unconsionable smear against Derek Jeter.
Finally...doesn't spending a day with Big Baby Davis look like a lot of fun? Which local athlete would you most like to spend a day with (for the purposes of this discussion, assume that Gisele is off-limits to interlopers like yourself)?
