Tonight, NEC students present a concert and discussion regarding the relationship between music and politics, specifically human rights violations during wartime. Works to be performed include Derek David's Elegy for Symphony Orchestra, Albert Oppenheimer's Psalm for the Certain, and Gregory Nicolett's Forbidden to Face the Natural Light. The last is based on a segment about Guantanamo Bay from National Public Radio’s This American Life.
After the music fades, a panel discussion moderated by NEC professor James Klein will begin. Panelists include Dr. James Keagle, professor of National Security from the National Defense University in Washington D.C.; Hurst Hannum, professor of International Law at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, with a specialty in International Human Rights Law; and Farah Stockman, a Boston Globe reporter specializing in foreign affairs. Check out what we hope will be a stimulating discussion on a timely topic.
