Bostonist was on the scene outside the Somerville Theatre last night for the most highly-hyped show the area has seen in a long time. We showed you the pictures earlier this morning and were receiving reports from friends across the country who were tuned into the concert broadcast from their hometown radio stations.
The kicker, however, was that many people gathered in the Square on Wednesday night couldn't hear what was happening a short distance away. A busker started to perform the moment the venue doors closed, which meant that attempts to listen to the broadcast were futile at best.
We're still looking for audio of the complete night, so if you know of a site, leave us a comment with the URL. In the meantime, Mix 98.5 has posted audio of "Magnificent" and set-closer "Vertigo" on its site, along with tidbits from the evening (feel better, Larry!).
If you were inside the Joshua Tree and wondering why the lads had yet to show up for a post-show pint, turns out you were in the wrong square. The Mix post reveals that the after-party was at Upstairs On the Square in Harvard Square.
Tip for the next time the area hosts a super-secret-until-the-day-before-an-epic-band-arrives show: set up speakers (at a reasonable volume, of course) over at Seven Hills Park. That way you encourage people to clear up traffic congestion in the Square, people are right nearby and everyone's included in the action.
And finally, the saddest U2-related photo of the day comes courtesy of Wicked Local Somerville.
